This burger stop takes me to an area in Tampa I’d never been before. South Tampa. No, I mean really South Tampa. I think this place shows up on MacDill Airforce Base’s perimeter radar. I recommend you get it on your radar.
Bayside Bites – Tampa / Smash Burger (Double & Triple)
There’s a convenience store called Bay Side Supermarket on the corner. This is actually their food truck. Manager, AJ tells me the kitchen was inside the store, but just too small, so the food truck is now the kitchen. AJ also created this wonderful menu that will have you coming back.
The latest Bayside Bites_813 menu has the Smash Burger as a BYOB. You choose what you want. I like choices. Let’s build, baby!
The beef is halal and an 80/20 grind. The patties are 2.2 oz., but they seem bigger. They are smashed thin, but not super thin. The patties fit the lightly toasted Martin’s Potato Rolls nicely. They know how to season the beef, or might I say, they actually season their beef?
I made 3 visits in a couple of weeks. American cheese twice and pepperjack once. I wanted the cheese melted more. It did get better each visit. The grilled onions have a rough chop. Very good. A few sliced pickles are added below the patties. You’ll also get plenty of their fantastic smash sauce. The Smash comes with double patties. I did go triple as you can imagine. Doubles are good enough, but go for it.
I did notice on my first visit that they are just lifting up the top bun and sliding the patties in. They are not detaching the top bun. I’m seeing this at more and more places. I do like my top bun detached. It certainly looks better and I get bun with every bite. I guess it’s smash burger open faced style.
I want to give a shout out to Joe. He made my kickass smashburgers every visit. After my first visit, I did ask him to be a little more careful with the top bun, and he even detached it for me. Thanks, Joe!
This is a fantastic Smash Burger!
I also need to mention the Loaded Fries. The best I’ve ever had. Don’t skip them. I loved the Loaded Smash Fries, but then had the Loaded Tender Fries and was even more blown away.
