When I’m driving around the Tampa Bay area, I’m keeping one eye on the road and one eye out for restaurants or food trucks. My one eyed trick paid off in a Palm Harbor neighborhood. This place is “harboring” some criminally good smashburgers.
Dairy Rich Creamery – Palm Harbor / Triple Smashburgers
You might think you went back in time a little bit. A side of the road stand with a walk up window and a lot of outside seating. The word Dairy, makes you think ice cream, and you are correct. Ice cream cones, milkshakes, banana splits and sundaes of all kinds are on the menu. Besides the sweet treats, you might think this side of the road, old school ice cream stand, would have traditional burgers? You would be incorrect on that one.
Dairy Rich Creamery opened up back in 1959. Owners Jenna & Stephen took it over 3 1/2 years ago. They’ve reworked the whole menu. It still has that ice cream joint feel, but the food menu, specifically the smashburger menu, has taken over. It’s still a good mix of both.
There are a bunch of Smashburgers to choose from on the menu board and on the specials board. The beef is a 75/25, brisket, short rib & chuck grind. My favorite grind. The patties are smashed super thin, get that elite char, crispy edges, and are 3.5oz. You can make any smash Oklahoma style, with the onions smashed into the beef, on request. My first visit I got a double smash, made triple, with American cheese, caramelized onions, pickles and burger sauce on the ever popular, Martin’s Potato Rolls. Super delicious and exactly what I wanted.
Chef Stephen said when I come back, he’d make me his best smash. A triple, Oklahoma style with burger sauce. I came back, but missed Stephen manning the grill. I decided to try the popular The Not A Big Mac smash as a triple. It was delicious, but still wanted that triple OK style. I finally made it back and asked Chef to load me up with onions. He sure did. It is the best Oklahoma style smash I’ve had since moving here.
The Smashburgers are fantastic!
The onion rings are crunchy and wonderful! They have a great chopped cheese too.
They have also rolled out a food truck.
