Someone asked me where to get a good burger in the Hyde Park area of Tampa. I told them to check out Diggy Dogs. They said, but that’s a hot dog place. I said, I know. They said, ok, how are their hot dogs? I said, I don’t know, I’ve never had one.
Ok. Diggy Dogs_tampa is a hot dog place and their hot dogs are delicious. The 100% beef blend is all bark and all bite. The toppings are plentiful and crazy good. While you are ordering your favorite hot dog, you might want to add a smashburger to your order or double that smash down and get a hot dog on your next visit, because you will be back.
I first stopped back in May after seeing this hot dog place had a smashburger on their menu. I hadn’t heard anything about it. Maybe it would be a dog of a burger. Well, it was a dog of a burger. One that collects all the blue ribbons.
It’s my textbook smash and they aced the test. The 80/20 ground beef patty is 4oz. You can double it up. Uh, yeah. They season it nicely with their in-house spice blend. It’s juicy. American cheese, melted. They’ll throw on some diced grilled onions. Why diced? Think hot dog onions. Thin sliced pickles fill my need. Let’s talk sauce. DAT sauce it is. It’s fantastic. They swipe it on the top and bottom buns. The potato bun, Martin’s, of course. Soft and beautifully toasted.
This Diggy Dog Double Smash is Delicious!
You will see a few different smashburger pics. I’ve stopped by 5 times, waiting for the smash to go through a slight bun change and for the new cooks to create it exactly the same way. There have been some slightly different looking burgers, but they’ve all been delicious. Owner, Drew, thinks it’s all dialed in now. I would agree.
They have crinkle cut fries and they season them. Get a side of DAT sauce for them. They also have a special creation called the Dog-pile. It’s a single smashburger with a thin sliced chicken breast on top. If you think that’s your jam, try it. If not, you can take the chicken patty off, and you’ll still have a single smashburger to enjoy.
