Scenario: you’ve just been shopping, you’re tired, you’re hungry and looking for a place to eat.  You know the usual suspects, the places you’ve visited already.  What about something different?  What do I want?  I need food badly and I’m very thirsty.  Then you see the sign that gets your attention.  The sign says “Food + Beer”.  Have my prayers been answered?  I think so!

There are 8 locations.  From Sarasota to their newest location in Wesley Chapel.  Don’t think chain, think local hangout.  If you are thinking bar food, don’t.  The menu features unique scratch made creations.  I loved the Tin Can Nachos and the fresh-cut fries are fantastic.  There are currently 6 burgers on the menu.  My eyes went straight to the Okeechobee Smash.

This is your classic Oklahoma Style Onion Smashburger.  Thin sliced onions smashed into the beef patty.  While most places can execute the process of smashing onions into the beef, almost all of them fail in the second important part of an Oklahoma Style Onion Smashburger. Onions!  Lots of onions!  They should be bursting out all over the place if done correctly to honor this iconic burger.  Food + Beer definitely has the most onions of any Tampa Bay area Okie Smash I’ve had.  It put a smile in my face. 😄

The Okeechobee has double 3oz. patties, seasoned nicely and juicy from its higher 73/27 fat content ground beef blend.  Melted American cheese blankets the patties.  Thin slices pickles might be on the top or bottom and the sauce is called deli mustard.  It’s not too mustardy if you’re worried.  The bun is brioche and it’s a keeper.  Light and airy and feels so good in your hand.  I’ll mention it one more time for the people in back, there are a lot of onions.  Kudos!

Oklahoma would be proud of the Okeechobee Smashburger.  I loved it!
I almost forgot the beer.  They have the usual desired suspects, like Yuengling, Coors Light + Sam Adam’s.  Hoping they’ll add Mango Cart. 😉🍺
