I get down to Fort Myers about once a month or so to see close friends. Unfortunately, I haven’t come across a burger I thought I should tell you about yet. Honestly, it’s been Grouper Reubens that I think about when I’m down there. My last visit changed that in a big way. Not only did I find a good burger, I found one of the best I’ve had in Florida, period.
I’m going to call this the Gigi OG Smash. Like that? Their menu consists of Burgers, Grilled Cheeses, Hot Dogs and a few specialty items. My friend, Greg, who I call G, told me this burger was really really good. I always believe him. What an amazing experience it was! It looked good enough, then I took a bite and another, and I lit up like a Christmas tree. After finishing this beauty, I went to the food truck and asked who it was who made my burger. Her name is Lulu. She is proud of and loves to talk about the great food she serves us.
The Original Smash is the definition of an Oklahoma Onion Smashburger. The beef is Kobe beef from Jimmy P’s Butcher Shop, @jimmypssteaks. The two 1/4 pound patties are tender and juicy and flavorful and seasoned well. Wonderful beef. The onions are sliced very thin and smashed into the ball of beef, to give it that nice onion flavor. They get charred after the flip. The patties are topped with American cheese. A few sliced pickles and a swirl of their delicious house-made chipotle sauce cover the top. The bun from @cusanosbakingcompany is a blend of brioche and potato roll, and is drizzled with butter and toasted beautifully.
Lulu tells me their most popular burger is the Original Smash, then the American Cheeseburger, followed by the Jalapeño Smash. Also, any item on the menu can be customized to your liking. You can also build-your-own burger. Personally, my BYOB would be the Original Smash.
This is an amazing Smashburger!
Gigi Gourmet Food Truck is located in the super cool Backyard Social, open air food, drink & have fun venue. They also have a food truck down at Celebration Park in Naples.
