When living in a new city and state, it’s nice to come across something that you are familiar with or have a connection to. There’s a food truck that’s kickin’ out a type of burger I couldn’t be more familiar with.
You know I love food trucks. I’m also proud to be from the state that created the Jucy Lucy back in the Prohibition era. Well, I’m not in Minnesota anymore and this is not a Jucy Lucy from Matt’s Bar or The Nook. Down here they call them “Stuffed Burgers”. A Juicy Lucy typically has only cheese stuffed inside it. A Stuffed Burger has cheese and anything else you want to pack in there.
Owner, Rob, started making these stuffed burgers back in 2005 and rolled out his Food Truck at the end 2020. He has a few different stuffed burgers to choose from on the menu like the Franco Avo! and Miss Piggy’s Nightmare I had my eye on the Mad Jalapeno, but Rob said if I like it even more spicy, to go with The Hangry Queso.
It’s a half pound of Black Angus Beef, stuffed with chopped bacon, jalapenos, red onions and a cheddar cheese blend. It’s cooked to perfection over an open flame. Melty white queso cheese is poured on top of the patty along with a little more chopped bacon, jalapeno and red onion. Below the patty are a couple of sliced tomatoes and lettuce, on a lightly toasted brioche bun.
The patty was seasoned very nicely and had a soft feel to it. The inside was a perfect light pink. Not even close to being overcooked or undercooked. The fresh jalapenos gave it enough heat to satisfy. I got a little mouth tingle. The onions and bacon soaking in that cheese blend was very flavorful. You won’t need a knife and fork unless you want one. The mess is very manageable. It’s a delicious, flavorful burger creation.
Rob has a unique style with his burger presentation. He finishes the burger, cuts it in half, slides a couple of skewers thru both halves, and then places it face down on the grill for 3 to 5 seconds. It sears it one last time and makes eating it a little easier. It’s the ultimate cut shot burger presentation, which you know I like as a nice money shot. You also know I prefer to cut my own burger, but I can get it exactly the way Rob wants to present it, the first time. There is one non-stuffed burger that he doesn’t cut in half.
You’ll see the @gostuffurselffoodtruck all over the Tampa Bay area, and consistently at the Dog Bar in St. Pete, which he is at 3-4 times a month, mostly on weekends.
