Most of the time I’m hitting beaches or boating on the Gulf side of Florida, but recently we had a chance to spend time with friends and do some beach hopping and boating on the Atlantic side. While both sides may be different, one thing they both have in common? Great Smashburgers!
In our conversations with friends, we kept hearing about The Jetty. After a while, we were like, OK, take us to The Jetty. Here, it’s where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian River Lagoon. The Jetty is a hotspot for panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, fishing, and having fun or relaxing with great food and drinks.
Island Burger and Shake has been open for 3 months. It’s owner, Taylor Shull’s, second restaurant, after his first being @islandpigandfish.fl.
This one focuses on the Smashburger, Fries & Shakes. Aside from very creative burgers of the week, the regular menu features the Skinny, the Double D and the Big Daddy. The skinny is a single 3oz. patty, the Double D adds a second patty and the Big Daddy is a triple. You can choose between a beef blend of brisket, short rib & chuck or a Wagyu blend for a little extra.
The brisket, short rib & chuck blend was fantastic. A great sear from the smash, seasoned well and as juicy as you could expect. This is a modified Oklahoma onion Smashburger. The ball of beef is smashed on a hot grill and then very thinly shaved onions and added on top. They get cooked on the flip. I’m a big fan of Cooper’s white American cheese. It melts beautifully. You can add bacon if you like. It’s chopped bacon, not strips. The bun is soft and toasted nicely.
What makes this burger unique and memorable is the delicious chef’s special sauce, but then they mix this sauce with chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, and little chunks of homemade bread & butter pickles. It’s kind of a little chopped salad on your burger. It’s fantastic.
You May remember seeing the Atlantic Ocean, but you Will remember the Big Daddy.
Thank you @mikeiseating for putting it on my radar.
