Ever had a Colombian smashburger? Would it have ham, potato sticks or pineapple sauce on it? It might. Not in this case. Simon from Medellin, Colombia, wanted to bring the American smashburger to Colombia. He did that two years ago. He is changing the burger landscape down there with two smashburger restaurants. What’s good for us is he’s brought his 3rd smashburger location to Tampa.
Why Tampa? They love the city. They have friends and a cousin here. They know it’s a great food scene and the burger scene is pretty darn good too. Now Simon has his brother Emmanuel here to run the OG Burger Food Truck. Let’s get to the burger. I was shocked that this Colombian owned food truck has an Oklahoma Onion Smashburger on its menu. The “Homa” in Triple Homa is a reference to Oklahoma. They nailed it. The patties are just over 3oz. The smash thickness and size are exactly what you want. Not too thin so you still get juicy beef and not too big, so you still get bun with every bite. The beef is USDA choice with a nice fat content. It’s juicy, they season it nicely and it’s got a good sear on it. 3 ounce patties make a triple patty a great option. It’s not too much beef. They melt American cheese on 2 of the patties, I made sure it was on my 3rd patty.
Very thin sliced red onions get smashed into the ball of beef. I love onions this way. Were there enough? I came back a second time to get more. Pickles? Choose from salty or sweet. Sauce? Their OG sauce is a delicious burger sauce. For the Homa, the menu says hot sauce, but it’s basically the OG sauce kicked up a little bit. It’s called Homa sauce. I loved them both, but the OG sauce gets the nod. You do get OG sauce on the side with the Homa. The DS Burger is the most popular. It’s a double smash. You can get a triple double or a BB, which is a single patty smash. The Homa comes in a BB, double or a triple. They make their own buns and do it well. Soft and nicely toasted. This is a fantastic smashburger!
I love the Gangster theme. These burgers are gangster!
