The Westshore area of Tampa has a new and very good entry into the smashburger arena. @uniontampa opened a few months ago, offering up a sleek, modern, upscale design and serving traditional American food. What could be more American than a cheeseburger?
A great smashburger doesn’t have to be that difficult. Good ingredients executed well. Union does it beautifully. Two brisket & short rib blended 3oz. patties, that are charred nicely, juicy and seasoned well, is where it starts. American cheese, of course, melted very nicely. A few fantastic sliced pickles on the bottom and a nice amount of their delicious Union sauce up top. The sesame seed potato bun is an attention grabber. It has a soft and very airy feel to it and is toasted beautifully. It’s worth checking out.
If you didn’t know, Union New American is owned by Jeff Gigante, Joe Guggino & Andrew Wright, the same owners as @boulontampa, and you know how much I love Le Burger. There may be some similarities with that burger, but this one is different and easily stands on its own. It does have a different feel to it. A damn good feel for sure.
The Union Cheese Burger is currently only available on the lunch menu. Get there before 3:00. I have requested it be added to the dinner menu.
The fries are fantastic. Get a side of that delicious Union sauce to dip them in.
The Roast Chicken is wonderful.
The Parker House Milk Bread is one of a kind.
